Missouri Governor Signs Statewide TV Bill Into Law

Post by Altuslumen »

Legislation intended to give Missouri consumers a greater choice of television service providers was signed into law Thursday by Gov. Matt Blunt. The new law will make it easier for traditional telephone companies such as AT&T to start offering video service over their fiber-optic networks in competition with existing cable TV companies. Instead of having to negotiate separate franchise agreements with each community they want to serve, companies will be able to get approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission to offer TV service anywhere in the state. AT&T has pledged to spend more than $100 million to expand its video service in Missouri as a result of the new law, which takes effect Aug. 28. Associated Press.

This should be really nice once U-Verse is available in StL, currently the prices are cheaper than cable and it offers more channels (plus I'll get a big discount).
