Web Host

I'll be changing web hosts within the next week. I assume all cookies will be lost with the site at that time. Be sure you know your password ahead of time. Also, when the site goes down it will probably be down for a few hours while things get setup and Domain Name Servers get updated.

Are you going to update the BB too? Maybe a new theme?

A new theme or two would be easy enough. This is still most recent version of phpBB. Though, the change will allow for the upgrade when the next version is released. Peela.com (my current host) is running an old version of php and last week I got an e-mail that they are no longer going to be in the web hosting business as of October 31st.

Some themes I've thought about installing.

Though, if there is a theme you want let me know, I don't have to use it or like to install it and let others use it.

I'll be switching the DNS entries tonight, when I do that I'll be locking the forums on this host to prevent any out of sync issues. If you have issues accessing these forums tomorrow it is most likely due to your DNS not having updated yet.

Thank you. I have e-mail addresses copied over, tonight I'll be moving the database and the files. The files are the easy part, database should be relatively easy but we'll see how it goes.

DNS has been updated for me. Please let me know if you find any issues with the site.

Were you changing the look and feel too, or just a DB?

Working on it, this weekend I should have different templates. Last night I only had time to get the same old thing working. Though, this morning the site seems to be a lot faster than it was.

Seems to be running quite a bit faster for me.

Cool. Yep. seems faster now that you too brought it up. haha.

I've uploaded some new styles.
User Control Panel > Board preferences > My board style: > then select the style you want.

I included one that isn't full screen. If anyone wants something else installed let me know. I haven't decided which I'll use or if I'll need to make any changes to any of them.

The conversation wasn't that bad. It took a bit of work to move the database over, I exported a backup file but I had to break it into three files to upload to the new database. Moving the files over was pretty easy, but just had to update a couple of config files (took a bit to remember were the second one lived). Somehow I only partially setup the e-mail accounts but once I figured that out it wasn't tough to fix. Overall, it was a lot less work than I was expecting.

I was a little disappointed in the fact that the cheapest hosting plan only had a total of 100 MB of storage space for all the e-mail accounts combined, so I had to buy 1 GB worth to add in, but all in all it will be just under $58 a year to host with godaddy.com. Was $48/year with Peela and their service/servers were of a lot lesser quality.

STYLES
OMG...all of those styles are horrible. Seriously. :)

Find me some better ones. Or at the very least something to go on as to what to look for.

STYLES
I like this proFormell better than the others I've installed. I'm not sure if I'm more used to the 'pro' style boards if they are superior, but the ones that don't follow the pro template seem awkward.

I can't say I'm thrilled with any of them, but oh well.

STYLES
I like the proDark a lot. Little tweaks I would make to it are maybe a brighter font (the gray font doesn't provide enough contrast at times). And maybe a few other colors here and there. The second entry in your list above has these features (white font and titles are yellow). http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=385 I don't like the icons beside each forum / post since they seem too similar to me to quickly differentiate.

Yes. CA Black please, but ProFormell is nice too.

To preview everything that has been installed:
prosilver
eTech Gray
proDark
Hermes Gray
Minimal
proFormell
CA Black
CA Orbital

I may reinstall proDark and just start from scratch with it, I changed some thing when it was installed but it was never great as images are a pain to edit.

With CA Black the new post indicator needs to change, I agree with Myrsho. Too much color for not being a new post.

You know I kinda grew attached to proFormell in the time I was using it (30 minutes?). Clean, easy to read, and not 100% width.

If you need any assistance with images, let me know. Happy to help. I do Web Design as part of my job, so I can handle most stuff that doesn't call for real artistic talent.

Main problem with any of the images I've tried to edit is that they are flattened already. If I had access to the original image it probably wouldn't be a problem (though that was years ago when my version of photoshop wasn't extremely old). But I'll let you know.

Yep, Whatever, np.

You do need to change your footer text for me... yellow on white doesn't look so good. :-)

I'm really liking CA Black. I changed the header image to just a simple label, I'm getting used to the colors and where some buttons have been moved to. Though, I'm still open to changing stuff on this template or any other if work needs to be done.

Maybe I missed something somewhere, but I do not see much if any difference. Alt, have you made changes yet for all to see?
